2015 Holiday (Part 3) – Christmas Day

We woke on Christmas day to a chilly -6 and snow as far as the eye could see.

Santa had managed to find Harry and Milly in Whistler, so once they had opened presents and were ready, they headed over to our condo and we got to open some amazing presents from them!

One of the presents Wade got was an NFL football so the boys headed out the front to throw the football around in the snow and we started on building a snowman.  We really went into it with no idea what we were doing and soon realised it was going to take a lot longer than we thought (we probably should have aimed smaller!!).  After spending a long time building the body of the snowman, we realised we had to get ready to leave for our Christmas brunch.  So we found some twigs for arms and drew a face on the body and decided to come back later to finish it off (but in the end never did)!

From here we wandered through the village down towards the front to the Westin where we had booked brunch.  Well the McMains had booked brunch and I secretly contacted the Westin and added three more people to their booking a few days before we left home!  The McMains had decided to all buy "Ugly Christmas Sweaters" to wear to brunch on Christmas day - and they definitely all looked a treat!!!  Mum and I ended up finding one each to wear as well, but Wade didn't (apparently it was too difficult to choose between all the ugly Christmas sweaters we found)!!

Brunch was amazing.  There was everything from turkey and ham, to a chocolate fondue station, prawns, spring rolls, dumplings, eggs benedict, mac and cheese (which Wade loved), fruit and all the traditional breakfast foods.  We proceeded to eat ourselves silly for the next hour and a half until we could pretty much no longer move.

We had originally planned to ski in the afternoon, but after all the food we had eaten, we decided to hold off and see how we felt later.  We had hired a 7 seater car to drive to and from Whistler, so after brunch we decided to all jump in the car and drive out to the Olympic Park, which was about a 20 minute drive from the main village in Whistler.  This is where the ski jumping and cross country skiing (among other things) took place during the 2010 Winter Olympics, and the views around the park were amazing (I think I've said that about everything so far - but Whistler was truly amazing!!).

When we got there we realised that we had tobogganing included in our entry fee to the park, so Wade, Harry, Milly and I ventured up to the day lodge and grabbed some toboggans.  We picked the highest and steepest run to go down, and off we went!!  It was great fun and we all had a lot of laughs.  In the end, the little kids did more runs than the big kids as we quickly realised that going down was great, but the trek back up the hill - not so fun!!

By the time we got back to the village, we realised it was too late to go skiing, so we ended up returning all our ski gear - which we were a bit sad about.

After such a massive brunch, we decided that we couldn't possibly eat dinner as well.  So we headed to the supermarket to buy some snacks and ice cream (very nutritious) and spent our last night in Whistler in front of the fire watching Home Alone (it's a tradition for me and Harry to watch this at Christmas time).

Whistler was such a beautiful place and I'm so glad we were able to pull of our surprise and have a White Christmas together.

Here are some photos from Christmas Day......
