We arrived in LA this morning, after travelling over in style in the new Virgin Australia business class. We got through customs and immigration super quickly, picked up our car and hit the ground running.
First stop was Randy's Donuts, where Wade had to buy both a chocolate long john and chocolate raised donut - both of which got a big thumbs up (Diet? What diet?!).
After this we headed over to Santa Monica Pier to start our drive up the Pacific Coast. After a quick wander along the pier, and walk along the beach we began our drive. The blue sky was peaking through by now (after the smog had burned off) and it was starting to get really hot!
We followed the Pacific Coast the whole way passing through Malibu, Ventura, Santa Barbara, to our first night's accommodation in Pismo Beach. Our lunch stop was at Neptune's Net Seafood Restaurant (just north of Malibu), which was seen in the Fast and the Furious movie. We also stopped at a few beaches along the way (we put our feet in the water at one - the water temperature is definitely not the same as QLD beach temperatures - so cold!) and went off the main road a few times and through some residential areas (the houses were crazy).
We arrived in Pismo Beach just after 3pm - very tired and glad to be there. After a wander along the boardwalk, and a walk through town, we headed out to the outlets (the first of many outlets we will likely see on this trip) and had a quick stop at Walmart (also probably the first of many on this trip!) before grabbing dinner and heading back to the hotel. Our hotel is right on the beach, so after dinner we headed up to the top level of the hotel to watch the sun set over the ocean. A great way to end a long day - and now it is bed time!
