30th September - New York to Chicago

Today was our last day in New York.  We had a fairly slow morning just walking some of the streets that we haven’t been along on this trip and doing a little bit of shopping.  We had to check out at 12pm so headed back just before to sort out our bags.

After this we hit the streets again, and headed across to Bloomingdales for a quick visit.

Next stop was to Serendipity 3!  This is another thing we have tried to do on previous trips, but every other visit the wait time has been really long and we haven’t either bothered or haven’t time.  This time we got a table straight away.  I couldn’t go past the Frozen Hot Chocolate, but just in case that wasn’t enough, I got the salted caramel version.  It was so sweet - but amazing!!  Wade got the humble pie (peanut butter flavoured) and we both felt really sick afterwards (but in a good way)!!

By this stage we pretty well had to head back to the hotel to grab our bags to head to the airport.  While we were waiting for our bags to come the bellhop asked us if we needed a cab (which we did).  He said, he could get us a town car for $65 all inclusive (which was cheaper than the cab we got into the city so we agreed).  Next thing he came back and said, I can get you a stretch limo for the same price.  Of course we said yes, and so we got driven to JFK in style (much nice than the crazy cab ride into the city a few days ago - the driver didn’t use the horn once!!).  It took forever to get out to the airport as the traffic was bad, so it was definitely nice to do it in comfort.  This was definitely a fun way to end our time in New York.  We made a comment the other day that while we have done a lot on this trip that we haven’t before, there is still so much to see/do here.  I guess that just means we have to come back!

Tonight we caught our flight to Chicago.  There have been some issues with flights in and out of Chicago over the past few days thanks to a guy who decided to set fire to the air traffic control centre here!  This meant our flight was delayed almost 2 hours.  By the time we finally got to our hotel it was 10.15pm and we hadn’t eaten dinner.  We dropped our bags in our room (which was upgraded to river view room) and headed downstairs to just eat at the hotel restaurant - and we are glad we did.  We had the best burgers (beef for Wade and lamb for me) & fries (sweet potato fries for Wade and truffle fries for me!) we have probably ever had.  Not sure if that was because we were starving or if they really were great!

Tomorrow we will head out and explore the city!
